History of Greenfield Elks Lodge #1296 2001 - present

2000 The "Elks National Veterans Service Commission Award" was presented to our Dennis G. Moore for his outstanding contribution to the Leeds, Ma V.A. Hospital, and monthly Pizza Party's for the Troops. June 11, 2000

2000 - 2005 Bringing us into a new millennium, with the idea of refinishing the social room. New railings were installed on the balcony and repainting of the trim, new parking lot lines were finished. The property at 111 Federal St. was repainted and updated for rental. Mortgage paid off. New dishwasher installed in kitchen. Also a by-law change in dues payment to annual payment. Two HVAC Units installed. Mass. State Vets Cemetery walkway monument developed in Agawam. Renovate and create new space to the bar area was proposed and work began in June. Completion in November and adding an enlarged bar and seating capacity.

2006 - 2008 Automatic sprinkler System were required by the Commonwealth due to a catastrophic night club fire in Rhode Island. This system was installed on the first floor, and a new security system also installed. A new BBQ pit was completed. The dictionary project was developed for 3rd grade elementary students and DD Robert Mott issued over three hundred .

2009-2012 Saw the Installation of the First Lady Exalted Ruler Linda Gorey. Who followed PER Adam Reed who served three terms. Trustee Fran Sirum and ER Linda began Friday Night Fish Fries and Lobster Raffles during the fall and winter, early spring nights. Also a computer system upgrade to the CLMS (Chicago Lodge Membership System) was initiated. In 2012 we built our first-ever website with member Mik Muller and his company Montague WebWorks.

The first annual Motorcycle rally was a huge success for over 100 participants with a bake following the 100 mile ride.

Planning is in place for the 100th Anniversary on Jan. 7, 2013. The committee, with Fred Ulrich, PER, Linda Gorey, PER, Robert Mott PER, PDD, James Sanicki, PER, Mike Blanchard, PER, Sid Jensen ER, Bill Kilgour, to have events throughout the year. A major event will take place in September 21, 2013 with a $50,000 raffle with smorg and band.

In conclusion, the Greenfield Elks #1296 is strong and with a strong sense of optimism for the future, yet no sense of complacency. And as you review this History, it is clear that the members have continued to foster and practice in their daily lives and in Lodge activities the cardinal principles of our order - charity, justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity.

It is indeed a distinct honor and privilege to be associated with the Greenfield Elks for over fifty-three years. Serving as an Officer, Exalted Ruler 1999-2000, Lodge Secretary, and Historian. May the heart of Elkdom continue to throb as we enjoy our anniversary and continue our good work for the future of mankind.
